Füreya x Ninon

The signature birds of Füreya Koral, the first female ceramic artist in the history of the Turkish Republic, now meet the enchanting world of Ninon, inspired by Füreya’s belief that “art must be a part of life.”

As one of the pioneers of Turkish ceramic art, Füreya Koral saw the material as a living entity—focusing on exploring the texture, color, and shaping potential of clay. Inspired by traditional İznik tiles and Anatolia’s rich earthen heritage, she infused her forms with a sense of dynamic flow. Her original patterns, which brought together geometric and abstract motifs, honored both modernism and local aesthetics. Through her masterful glazing techniques on meticulously shaped ceramic surfaces, she created striking plays of light and shadow, giving her works a timeless aura that imbued spaces with soul. Her artistic philosophy carried the profound belief that “the material must speak for itself”—she didn’t merely mold clay, but brought the story buried within the earth into the present.

Bird motifs held a special place in Koral’s artistic vision. She saw birds as symbols of freedom, the soul, and the sky, and rendered them on ceramic surfaces with elegant stylizations. By combining fluid and linear wing forms, she captured the essence of their flight—bringing a sense of lightness and motion to her work. Drawing inspiration from both Anatolian folk art and contemporary abstraction, she transformed birds from mere decorative elements into profound storytellers—uniting the tale of earth with the spirit of air, and inviting the viewer on a timeless journey.
